Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My high school serves students who have lived in the United States for four years or less. There is a welcoming environment in the school with many support services, ranging from providing help in legal matters to meeting the medical needs of the students. The school allows the new immigrants to learn about the world around them while developing their English skills.
All the students of the school have diverse linguistic, cultural, and educational backgrounds.
The diversity of the school allows the students to develop respect for other cultures and values while finding out their place in this world and how they can bring change for better. Students also work collaboratively on projects designed to bring out the richness of their cultures, experiences, and personalities. Students have the opportunity to be placed in an internship in 11th grade that matches their career interests.
My Project
With your help, I hope to send 13 of my amazing tenth grade students, who have had PERFECT ATTENDANCE this semester, to go see a show through one of NYC DOE's partner organizations, Broadway Bridges.
Your contribution would help affirm our tenth graders' achievements and give them the unforgettable experience of seeing a Broadway show.
Having perfect attendance may sound simple, but for these students, it is much more than that.
Living far away from school, juggling multiple responsibilities and roles in their families, and adjusting to a new culture and language in the U.S. are only some of the challenges that my students face. And yet, they've shown their resilience each day as they wake up and make the long trip to and from school.
To honor these students' impressive commitment to learning more about themselves and the world around them, our school will bring students to see a Broadway show.
