My students need dry erase boards, SAT textbooks for resources, candy to keep the motivated and key rings so they can put their vocabulary words on index key rings.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are hungry learners and are so thankful for their limited resources. They all have great plans for going to college one day and I want to help achieve that. I am running an SAT program at my high school to make sure they can do so.
My students are filled with energy everyday.
They come in early and stay late for office hours. They want to come in early on Saturday to take practice SATs. They are serious learners and they know how behind they are in reading, math and writing. I don't want the school system to fail them again. I want these kids to be able to master the SAT without having to spend thousands of dollars on Kaplan or Princeton.
My Project
My students desperately need engaging lessons. We strive to make our students "college ready" but they can not do basic math, reading and writing that is on the SAT. We need index key holders to increase vocabulary. Each week they will have vocabulary words they will need to make index cards. Our school runs a collaborative teaching model so each subject will also incorporate that vocabulary into their lesson plan. I need the presentation remote so that I may circulate around my classroom while I am running a PowerPoint and make sure everyone is on the same page. I strive to make my lessons engaging so I play tons of games which I will use with the whiteboard. It is a great check for understanding! I also need tons of help with lesson planning so I am hoping the SAT books do just that. The lollipops are there to reach my minimum AND to give them out as prizes! The best way to a high school student's brain is through their stomach.
I have 154 students in total and my goal is to get each and everyone to college.
By running this program I am one step closer to getting them to the college of their dream. 91% of my students require free or reduced lunch. They do not have money to pay for Princeton or Kaplan to help improve their SAT score. One out of ten students from low income neighborhoods end up going to college. Together, let's make 154 out of 154 college graduates.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
