Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I work in a neighborhood school that truly is the heart of the neighborhood it serves. My full day Head Start preschool classroom is dedicated to not only teaching students academics (letters, numbers, colors, shapes) but also incorporating social and life skills (tooth brushing, hand washing, eating family style). Our Title I school really is the backbone of the neighborhood. School events, parent nights, and after school programs are much needed and highly sought out for the students that we serve.
My students are highly diverse.
While they all now live in the same neighborhood, their backgrounds, home language, and cultures vary greatly. We set high expectations for these students and strive to give them quality experiences that they may not otherwise receive. Hands-on experiences are crucial for early learners to truly understand and appreciate ideas and studies within the classroom.
My Project
My students love puzzles! They work on them everyday independently or with partners. My students have mastered all the 24 and 48 puzzles that we have in our classroom and I would love to supply them with a new challenge- 100 piece floor puzzles!
Puzzles are great tools to teach hand eye coordination, a variety of math and language skills, and they are self correcting which builds confidence within the children!
Puzzles are the ultimate well rounded tool for this age group. The variety of skills that are learned, practiced, and mastered while doing puzzles are all transferable skills for Kindergarten and beyond! 100 piece floor puzzles is the next challenge for these almost Kindergartners!
