Computers have become part of the foundation of learning. For the 250+ students at our elementary school, I strive to expose them to as many different areas of technology, while expanding on their basic skills which will move them forward in life.
Our school, while small, will be mighty with the number of students who will have more than a basic understanding of computers and their functions.
Our school is a low income, Title I school with very diverse backgrounds.
As the computer teacher, I see all students, Kindergarten through 6th grade, all of whom have different knowledge and background when it comes to technology. I strive to expose my students to all aspects of computer science from typing skills to spreadsheets, computer safety to coding.
My Project
Typing skills are essential in society today and laptops are being used more and more. However, most laptop keyboards are lacking in a 10-key keypad. Having keypads that can be added to a computer will allow my students to chance to practice on a 10-key.
Many of today's jobs involve data entry which in infinity easier with knowledge and practice on a 10-key keypad.
Jobs at every level require knowledge of this typing skill, which is hard to teach without a keypad! Also included are some incentive prizes because who doesn't like a little pick me up on those hard days.
