This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We are living in a day and age where technology is everywhere and in everything. It is hard to go anyplace where a computer is not present in the facility. Our 1st graders love using computers because the possibilities are endless. Using technology is a great way to keep students engaged.
Our students attend a Title I school in New York, which means that 98% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Our school also offers a healthy snack. Our school is located in a high poverty area, so some of our students don't have computers at home. The only technology that they will know will be in a classroom. I am a special educator in an ICT classroom (Integrated Co-Teaching). In an ICT classroom, there are two teachers and the students consist of general education and special needs students. I am the special educator in the class aforementioned, but I support the needs of ALL of our students.
My Project
Having two laptops in the class would allow our 1st graders to explore the world at their fingertips. Right now our class roster has 27 students, but that could easily change to 32 students in September. Having 1 computer in a class of that size is simply not enough. Our students would use the laptops to do research, to play interactive literacy and math games, to watch video clips of places that they would like to visit in person and also "Skype" children from other classrooms all around the world. Students could also use the laptops in our listening station in which they would watch and listen to the story we are reading in class, come to life. As stated, the possibilities are endless and I believe our students should be afforded this opportunity.
Your donation would, beyond a shadow of a doubt, make a difference in the lives of our students.
With the budget cuts in our schools today, having these laptops will make a huge impact on our students. Thank you in advance for all of your help.
