My Students
My students are creative, thoughtful, critical thinkers! They attend a wonderful school of teachers and staff members who truly care. Our school is high poverty and for teachers most supplies and support for classroom materials are paid for by us. It would be amazing to have the materials needed in the classroom to get my students to reach their full potential!
My students thrive for hands-on learning tools and opportunities.
They mostly come from low-income homes and often do not have opportunities to indulge in outside extracurriculars. The support of this project will employ students to engage in their learning and foster a love for STEM!
My Project
My students love to create and build! The items in this project will encourage a love of learning in the fields of Science, Technology, Mathematics, and Engineering: STEM. STEM lessons focus on real-world problem-solving which is exactly what my students need.
STEM is guided by the engineering design process and immerses students in hands-on inquiry and open-ended exploration.
STEM lessons involve students in productive teamwork that apply rigorous math and science content. STEM allows for multiple right answers and renames failure as a necessary part of learning.
With the funding of this project, my students will be able to engage in STEM lessons as well as creating, building, and problem-solving individually and with peers. They will use the STEM bins, included task cards, and manipulatives to create and design to construct as many different structures on the cards as they can. And instead of being just “busy,” students are engaged in creative, complex tasks and are encouraged to think like inventors. Kinesthetic learners, spatial learners, and logical learners will love exploring the different possibilities for the building materials as they try to construct more challenging structures.
In addition to the STEM bins, students can use the Snap Circuits will be introduced to the basic properties of electricity and electronics. Students will be able to re-create circuits of various functionalities such as shining a light bulb, spinning a motor, or both. They will be able to manipulate these circuits and create their own circuits using the components provided in the snap circuit kit. They will learn the fundamentals behind circuitry and how circuits are used in all of the technological devices we use today. Finally, the storage cart will be an easy to reach and use student center where the materials will be housed in the classroom.
