Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
When you have 35+ students in one classroom it makes it difficult to concentrate and stay focused. I want all of my students to have the best possible chance at being successful. So I always tell them "try your best and when you're done double-check and do it better, always be proud of yourself."
I work in a large urban district that is underperforming and there is a decline of student enrollment, as well as, diminishing tutoring and afterschool programs.
The majority of the students receive free lunch and very few are on reduce or denied lunch status. I currently teach in a semi-departmentalized setting. The students featured in this entry are my fifth grade homeroom class containing 36 students from the ages of 10-11 years old. They are bilingual students eager to learn. The predominant linguistic diversity in my class is the Spanish-speaking students that I serve using the 80/20 dual language model. The students are mostly Hispanic with 2 Caucasian and 4 African-Americans and four special education students. My students are very talkative and considerate of each other’s feelings.
My Project
We are requesting privacy shields that fit on top of our desks. These privacy shields are very important to us because we are over crowded and it's hard to concentrate. These privacy shields would allow students to do their own work or test without distractions even with other students in close proximity because only the student in front of the shield would be able to see his own work. This would allow us to make much more efficient use of our limited space.
My students need privacy shields so they can work at their own pace without distractions and be able to stay focused.
They have the right to and successful. They each have the right to privacy and must be responsible to respect the privacy of others.
