I work in a large urban district that is underperforming and there is a decline of student enrollment, as well as, diminishing tutoring and afterschool programs. The majority of the students receive free lunch and very few are on reduce or denied lunch status. I currently teach in a semi-departmentalized setting. The students featured in this entry are my fifth grade homeroom class containing 34 students from the ages of 10-11 years old. They are bilingual students eager to learn. The predominant linguistic diversity in my class is the Spanish-speaking students that I serve using the 80/20 dual language model. The students are mostly Hispanic with 2 Caucasian and 4 African-Americans and four special education students. My students are very talkative and considerate of each other’s feelings.
