This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Cooking is a really fun and engaging activity for my students, but it is also a critical independent living skill that my adult learners need to know how to do.
We cook every Friday so that my students can get real-life, hands-on practice using a variety of cooking tools, practicing kitchen safety, following a recipe, understanding food storage and food quality, and using their functional math skills.
As they prepare to age out of the school system, it is important that they can prepare basic meals for themselves and be safe in the kitchen.
These materials will help my students improve their cooking skills so they can cook and prepare meals for themselves as they exit the public school system.
