Ours is a Title I 70% free lunch eligible school serving a largely immigrant population. We are fortunate to have wireless internet access and the use of laptops for student connectivity. In order to achieve learning standards and best serve our students, it is important to have measurable data so that both educators and students can assess needs. Now there's a way for students to provide feedback instantly using our laptops in a way that is measurable and useful, especially when it comes to individual student needs.
Classroom Response System provides a technology where students, through the use of a "V-Pad" provide responses. For data acquisition, this amazing technology offers a solution. The V-pad is used when you have computers, PDAs, or a laptop that can provide students with immediate answers. A class with computers and internet access can use this tool to provide feedback. The V-pad in this system would be used to load the ability to respond through the computers. The responses are then gathered via an IP address. Should there be a preference for answers without use of the Internet (should the connectivity not be available on any given day), then response cards could be used. Both systems offer the best options for providing important data regarding student progress.
The power of providing students with immediate feedback and student results is an opportunity to address learning needs without delay. Time constraints within any school day make this a powerful solution and an expedient when it comes to use of time. Content is fresh in the minds of students and teachers can work with students more efficiently. This technology allows more instructional time with less time spent grading papers. The motivation factor for student use is powerful and can bolster student engagement which can translate into learning.
