Science fair projects are challenging for 6th graders. The trick is for the student to find what sparks their interest!
Our 6th graders attend a science based school with outdoor classrooms and an experiment lab.
The population is even in gender and is diverse in races. They are also 75% free or reduced lunch status. Since science is stressed in our school, our students are very motivated with hands on science projects.
My Project
Our district's Jr. High requires science fair projects. Since our students are in 6th grade, that makes them one year away from being in Jr. High. We want to expose them to science fair projects before they get to Jr. High to better prepare them. The science project boards and magazines will allow the students to learn the process this year. Providing them with the project boards will give all students the chance to have a project board and allow them to spend their own funds on the actual experiment materials. The Time for Kids magazines will allow them to read about topics that may interest them to research.
Our 6th graders are tomorrow's scientists.
We must give them opportunities to research and experiment on their own. Curiosity is the best teacher. Science fairs allow the students to compete in their world of science.
