My Students
My students are from southern Louisiana and were affected by Hurricane Katrina. This year's kindergartners were babies when Katrina hit. Help make their kindergarten year one of fun, happiness, and learning!
Our school is a low-income school with a high population of students that qualify for free or reduced lunch due to poverty.
There are several students in my classroom that have special education needs. We are in an overcrowded school and even have to share our classroom with another kindergarten class.
My Project
Our school has recently implemented guided reading as its main avenue for teaching reading. We lack the appropriate material for the children to have access to during independent reading times. At the beginning of the year, I had a project funded for the levels A, B, and C, but my "babies" are big kids now! They need harder books to read.
Reading is fundamental to the success of my students now and in the future.
My goal is for them to love to read. Having books at their independent level will help give them the confidence to become great readers!
