This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
When children come to math lab I want them to be excited & eager to learn. We do activities that build on & reinforce what they are learning in their classroom. In math lab they are exposed to manipulatives & games to help them be successful with the skills they need to pass their grade level.
We are located in Georgia in a city that is constantly growing.
I teach K-5th grade Math to all the classes in the school. We currently have about 760 students enrolled. The children have various needs, are on different levels of learning, and have different learning styles. One thing they all have in common is their love for learning. When they come into math lab I see the excitement on their faces and the love of math.
My Project
I am asking for manipulatives and math games that will help develop skills the children need. The items I have selected go along with our state standards that I teach. These will provide another resource and a different way to reach the children I teach. Some of the materials will be used whole group, some small group, and some even individual practice and remediation.
I have picked items that will supplement our learning in money, measurement, geometry, fractions, graphing, patterns, sorting, ordering, place value, and algebra. Not only will I use these in my math class but they will also be utilized with both my afterschool program children and my Saturday school children.
Children need every chance and opportunity to learn.
If I can reach a child through different means such as manipulatives and games then I am have been successful in what I do. This is a way to have children interacting; working not only as a whole group but also in small groups and partners. If we get these materials it will make a difference in a child's life.
