Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Seeing is believing! Many of my students want to do their very best in school, but they need more scaffolding in order to succeed. Funding this project would mean that my students would have the necessary equipment to understand daily lessons.
My students are wonderful, compassionate, curious learners.
They carry a fantastic reputation wherever they go and have been working hard to be the first in their families to attend college. 90% of my students are English Language Learners at a charter school dedicated to high student achievement. Two of them have officially diagnosed auditory learning disabilities.
My Project
A document camera would allow students to see the writing process in its most authentic form. I am enthusiastic about teaching my students to organize their ideas. Many of my students struggle to visualize the planning and execution of written assignments. A document camera would allow them to see how a writer moves from a brainstorm or outline into a draft. Then they could see how a writer revises and edits a draft by using specific symbols.
A document camera would help readers to see reading strategies modeled on paper. They would then be able to take active notes in their independent reading. The document camera puts a magnifying glass on whatever the teacher is modeling aloud. It anchors the learning process in a visual representation, rather than relying solely on a teacher narration. These are just two out of a hundred ways that the document camera will revolutionize my teaching and my student's learning.
It's so important for English language learners and visual learners to have a reliable form of modeling.
