I have students in five classes-biology, physical science, marine science, US History and advisory. We have a variety of printing needs from resumes for advisory students to topographical maps of the ocean floor for marine science. My students have projects and papers that need printing.
Our school community is a rural public high school in Hawaii.
Many of my students have mild and moderate disabilities. We are in a high poverty area with many of students qualifying for free lunch. Many live with single parents, relatives, or foster parents. Despite these challenges, my students are bright, and many aspire to go to college.
My Project
My classes have a wide variety of printing needs. Recently, we were going to do 3D models in marine science class. The students needed reference materials...but without ink I couldn't print out topographical maps for them to refer to. Another example is in my advisory class where we do preparation for college and career. The students need copies of resumes and personal statements to utilize for these purposes. In US History class this spring, I want the students to go through the process of completing a research project which culminates in a paper. I would love the students to be able to print and work on drafts and have a nice final product.
With all the down-sizing and cutting in education, basic supplies like printer ink can be hard to come by.
We are very careful with what we choose to print to save paper and ink and the environment too! However, sometimes there is nothing to beat a printout to use for research, job searching and more. Thank you!
