Projector To Create A Media Rich Classroom

My students need an LCD projector to enrich their classroom experience with diverse media and to display varied literacy projects for their classmates.

My Students

Students naturally seek to unite the worlds of self, education, literacy, numeracy, justice, communication, technology, and others. Access to an LCD projector enhances students' agency in engaging these connections by providing a media-rich environment for them to explore and experience.

My students are a group of eager-to-learn second graders that attend an under-resourced Empowerment School in Pennsylvania.

They spend the majority of their day in my self-contained elementary school classroom focusing on phonics, literacy, writing, and numeracy. My students and their families come from many places including: West Africa, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, and all over the United States. Our classroom's mix of identities and experiences provides us with frequent opportunities to examine the individualities and commonalities of the many cultural communities that surround our school. Ready with opinions and ideas, my students tackle school objectives and assignments with a dynamic desire to improve and learn.

My Project

I am requesting a LCD projector for my students. The projector will dramatically impact the versatility of the projects our classroom can take part in. The projector will also provide students with a new medium for publishing their ongoing writing projects and cinematic productions. For example, students will be able to see and then display examples of digital story-telling. Through access to video clips, audio shorts, and other media, students will have additional avenues to enrich their understanding of all subjects. Having the internet as a classroom resource will allow for dramatic improvements in the presentation of material in subjects such as science and social studies. Virtual travel and watching the accelerated growth of living things adds depth to student's development of subject knowledge. The level of student impact that a projector would provide is infinite.

For the exception of a small radio, our classroom does not have any computers or technology.

However, an understanding of the internet and technological-media is indispensable to today's students' success. All students deserve to have access the internet so that they can connect to and transform the world in which they live; having a classroom LCD projector is the ideal segue for such an active understanding.
