My Students

Reading can be a drag if unfamiliar words keep you from understanding what's going on. Teaching students to use context clues is a start, but what if they don't understand the words that are meant to be clues?

My students are 11th grade AP English language students excited to take on advanced coursework.

They know the challenges ahead of them (SATs, state assessments, AP exams, college coursework) and are anxious to get prepared. Vocabulary recognition is standing in their way, but they are absolutely in love with learning new words.

My Project

I am requesting these vocabulary workbooks because my students are demanding them. They want to learn new words. They want to understand more sophisticated texts. They want to be able to articulate exactly what they are thinking. A stronger, broader vocabulary will help them do all of the above.

Mark Twain once said, "The difference between the almost right word & the right word is really a large matter--it's the difference between the lightning bug and the lightning." Help me supply my students with those exact right words.
