My students need a LCD projector so I can show them examples of things we read about.

My Students
My classroom this year is a tough one. I have 4 students who speak no English and another 8 who have only been in the states for less than a year. Any help that can be given to my students would be welcome. I have found that my students learn best when they can visually see something.
My class is needy.
They are all from a poor area of Minnesota and come to school with next to nothing. Many of the children come from broken homes, and when I ask them what they have at home all I get is blank stares. Even something as trivial as a book are items my students know nothing about. All of my students receive free breakfast and lunch, and funding for our school seems to get less each year. This is my first year at my school, budget cuts last year meant that my previous school got closed. Being new to this school has meant I have to start with almost nothing.I have no technology in my room, with the exception of my laptop that I bring in on a daily basis. My students learn best when they can see examples given to them. I would love to utilize my computer by projecting what I want to show them, rather than walk around and so each student one by one. I am doing everything I can to try and make sure the kids I teach have something to help them learn for the school year.
My Project
The reason I am asking for a projector is so I can use my lap top for teaching purposes. I have no other technology in my room outside of an over head. I have never been in a situation such as this, and have never seen a group of children needing so much. Any way you can help would be great, as of right now I have spent $400 of my own money in order to get this school year off. The need for a projector is simple, most of my class has questions on a daily basis about material we are covering. Today one of my students had to read a short story on diving. Seeing he is from Laos he has never been to a swimming pool, let alone dove off a diving board. I wanted so badly to show him (and the class) what a diving board was but could not because I do not have the resources to do so. It is little things like that I encounter on a daily basis where a projector would be so great in order to drive a lesson home.
Simply put, it is so we can make a difference for 25 fifth graders who have nothing.
My class needs all the help they can possibly get and I am hoping this web site can provide the things I feel they need in order to learn. The students I have need visuals in order to learn, that is why this projector would be so beneficial. Something we all know like a diving board is a foreign concept to my class, and being able to show them this would help them learn 10 times over.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
