My students need an incubator to study the lifecycle of a chicken up close and personal.

My Students
Can you remember the wonder you felt as a child exploring your city or community? Well, many of my students have never explored the areas outside of their Urban Georgia neighborhood. Therefore, this project will enable my students to see the lifecycle of a chick without taking a field trip to a farm
I currently instruct 18 great first graders!
My class consists of 13 curious boys and 5 observant girls. They are poverty stricken children hailing mostly from single parent environments. The school has a 99 percent free lunch count and is a Title I school. Therefore, this incubator project would allow me to teach hands on inquiry based science without having to raise the money for a trip to a farm; an experience that many of their suburban counterparts experience before entering school.
My Project
Inquiry based learning allows the students to participate in hands on learning while answering their own questions through exploration. This project would allow my students to take responsibility for a living thing, witness the life of an organism, and create a plan for caring for the organism all while meeting the state standards in science learning.
This project is important because science should be a hands on learning experience for children.
But, with limited resources, it is very difficult to reach children and encourage them to be excited about a subject. It is very difficult to teach science without engaging the students in hands on learning. This incubator would allow the students to experience the life cycle of a chicken and not just read about it.
