This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember how excited you were to begin a project? It could have been a simple one such as baking cookies and you were ready to start, but found you were missing the flour! We have the same challenge. We want to begin gathering data but need the test kits to collect the results.
Our inner city students are excited about the opportunity to actually "do" science rather than struggle through reading about generalities in a book.
They have classes to learn reading but need to put things into practice. These are our future scientists who have the desire but simply need the materials to accomplish their goal. Our students are all second language learners from Arabic and Hispanic cultures. These students love science and look forward to the chance to come. They realize the value of education but lack the supplies.
My Project
We need water quality test kits and pens to write down what we have learned. We also need photo paper for the printer so we can have a visual record of what we have done. We lack basic supplies so these simple items are also necessary. These simple test kits provide accurate data but also give students the opportunity to use math and writing skills in a real time science situation. These best part about these kits is that they can be used more than once, only needing refills for some of the chemicals. This makes it easier for continuing this project for future students. Students see the value of learning computation skills and collecting data that is not busy work, but valuable information that could assist the community.
They are able to complete projects that can inspire them in career choices and in becoming involved in their community in a positive manner, making a difference that will improve their lives.
Your donation can help make this happen. Not only will your donation give them a hand in completing this project, it also enables them to give back to the community and teaches them that life is both a give and take experience. Thank you for making this possible!
