My Students
Was there a time you wanted to make a difference but didn't think you could? Well, my students feel the same way. I want to show them that they can make a BIG difference by doing something small! RECYCLE!!
My students are in fifth and sixth grade.
They come from a high poverty area in which many of them have not had the chance to learn about going GREEN and bettering their community and the world. They are very inquisitive children, that need a positive outlet.
My Project
It is my goal to turn every student in the four science classes I teach into GREENIES!! What is a GREENIE?? It is simply a student who makes simple everyday changes to better the world. A student who takes small, conscious steps to make BIG changes. I am requesting a videolab, which will allow all four classes to become interactive in learning about recycling through ten intensive lessons. They will be able to see, do, and understand the importance of recycling. I am also requesting recycling bins for each class. Each class will recycle items from home and school, challenging each other in becoming GREENIES. All students will receive GREENIE awards. Lastly, I have requested a paper making kit and blender for a culminating activity in which we will make paper from the recyclables collected. We will then package most of the paper in ribbons with a special recycling message to give to the community.
This project is important because it has the potential to not only make the students aware of the benefits of recycling, but also the community.
If we can reach our children with this important message now, they can and will grow into environmentally conscious adults.
