My students need a document camera to aid in our document based inquiry science class and would benefit all students in my class when analyzing various graphic organizers
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach at a Title 1 school in the city of Baltimore at a fantastic charter school. I truly feel that I am making a difference in each and everyone of their lives, especially with the passion, energy and enthusiasm I bring into our science class.
They are not my students, they are my children.
Each and every one of them have increased my passion for teaching when I see their sense of accomplishment in their eyes when they complete a task they did not feel they could. I push them, challenge them and drive them to achieve a level of success they never thought imaginable. A lot of my students have situations that you or I could never imagine, and this is why I create a culture of love, safety and academic challenges in my class everyday.
My Project
Since I myself grew up with learning disabilities I have made it a very important task of mine to reach ALL students in my room. I am not a fan of transparencies because it is not exactly what they are looking at in front of them therefore leaves room for some of my students to spend more time deciphering what they are seeing instead of staying on task. Therefore I normally project the document via Microsoft word on my LCD projector and then simply write on the whiteboard. This has proven ineffective because I constantly need to erase the board when I move the page up on the laptop. This tends to be very difficult because I can not return to the answers of previous questions. With a document camera I would be able to fill out the same worksheet they are looking at in front of them, and if I switch to another worksheet and they have a question on the one we just finished, I would be able to place the other one back under the document camera and clear up any confusion they may have.
Please, I am begging you to help my students ('my children') climb the mountain to college.
The lives you would touch, the challenges you would help them overcome, and the accomplishments you will help them achieve would take an encyclopedia length novel to describe them all!
