My Students

Danny Glover once said, "If we talk about literacy, we have to talk about how to enhance our children's mastery over the tools needed to live intelligent, creative, and involved lives."

Children can easily master these tools, and others, if they are given the time to explore and master literacy skills.

We need to help children develop the ability and confidence to find their way around this world. They need to be able to see how intelligent and creative they really are. These children need to know that they can succeed in life, and become anything they want to be, as long as they work hard at it.

My Project

One way to achieve this, and build their self-confidence, is through play. Games have been around a long time. Companies have now begun to make various games that can be used in the classroom to teach the many literacy skills and concepts that my students need to learn. There are games that help students to reinforce their reading comprehension and build their vocabulary. These games not only allow students hours of fun in an otherwise regimented day, but they also allow for hours of beneficial learning and reinforcement. My students need various literacy centers to help foster their love of learning.

I am a fourth grade teacher in a New York City Public School.

With the budget cuts that are constantly over our heads, our school is unable to purchase enrichment tools like these games. Please help me bring these games into my fourth grade classroom. Hopefully, the fun and laughter my students experience while playing these wonderful games, will only add to their learning experiences.
