My Students
I remember getting my first musical instrument in the third grade. It changed my life forever. My students deserve the same opportunity.
Many of the kids at our school are immigrants and children of immigrants from all over the world.
Walking through the halls you may hear Bosnian, Albanian, Russian, Farsi, Spanish, and even some English. All of these families have come seeking the American dream. Nothing will provide the opportunity to live the dream more than an education. No school program has proved to positively affect the education of young people more than participation in an instrumental music program.
My Project
Recorders are a great first instrument. They are small, inexpensive, yet capable of producing a beautiful sound. I would like to be able to provide every 3rd grade student with his or her own instrument to use for the year. Sharing instruments leads to unsanitary conditions and only half of the students can practice at home at any time. With more recorders everyone will have a great chance for success.
My students appreciate it when someone lends a hand.
They are grateful when given the opportunity to succeed. Participation in the recorder program will open the door to more instruments available in 4th and 5th grade.
