My classroom has developed into a patchwork of diverse backgrounds this year, ranging form Hurricane Katrina victims, recent Southeast Asian immigrants, a student with Muscular Dystrophy, ESL students, and a myriad of cultural backgrounds. We utilize the Everyday Mathematics curriculum, which was developed by the University of Chicago's School Mathematics Project. This math curriculum has two ambitous goals 1) substanitally raise expectations for math understanding 2) use a variety of materials to enable students to meet these expectations. One valuable component of the curriculum is the way that it integrates stories and literature into math lessons. Unfortunately, my school has only a few of these books. Thus, I am seeking to add these books to my library to enable my students to be high achievers in math.
