I am a reading specialist at a non-profit, inner city, charter high school. Our students are truly from a high-need community.
We have been lucky enough to start a brand new library with donated books and shelves. Our students need a place to read and study where they are away from the stress of their home environment or from their normal classes. Unfortunatly, many of the donated books do not initialy spark interest in our library.
We would like to purchase books that have been requested by our students. Our hope is that these books will entice them to come into the library and explore all of the other exciting resources in our new space. Our students can relate to the characters and problems in these books.
Students come to our school as a last educational resort after being dismissed from other schools. Many of these high school students do not know how to read. We are focusing on how literacy is such an important skill that needs to be learned in order to succeed in the future, whether at a job or in college. Please donate to this cause! It is very important in our effort to encourage literacy for life.
