Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach in an urban school district that is overcrowded and underfunded. Most of my students are new to this country and do not have the funds necessary to purchase their own Spanish-English dictionary. As a ELL teacher, it is frustrating that my students must share the few dictionaries that we have to look up words they may not understand.

My students come at all different levels, some may know a lot of English while others know just a little bit. Due to state laws, my students must take the CAPT tests regardless of their English level. My students are placed in an unfair position -- they have to learn the new language so quickly but we do not have the supplies to help them.

The class set of dictionaries will allow my students to learn at their own level and pace. They will be able to look up words that they do not understand right at their own desk. The increase in their vocabulary will help them not only with their standardized tests in the Spring, but also for their future plans as college students.

Your generous donation will allow my students to enjoy and love learning the English language. It will show them that people do care about their education and that they can achieve greatness. Your donation will allow me, as the teacher, to help my students achieve their fullest potential!
