Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

It's TIME to read! I teach an elective course for 7th grade students from a high-need charter school in Missouri. This course is designed to increase student academic achievement by building foundational skills such as reading, writing and mathematics. The course is students who may be several grade levels behind.

My students will be able to build their reading and writing skills in an engaging way through a TIME for Kids magazine subscriptions. These magazines will be a resource for my students to increase the amount of time they spend reading weekly. The magazines will also build students' reading comprehension skills, and provide a solid base for writing and discussion activities.

The TIME for Kids magazine will provide my students with additional exposure to the current events and topics in the greater communities of which they are a part.

You will make it possible for my students to learn more about the world in which they live, while at the same time providing a valuable resource for them to improve critical reading, writing, and comprehension skills.
