I am a high school mathematics teacher who teaches all levels of 9th-12th grade mathematics. I work at a school which has a 30% free-reduced lunch population and a large Hispanic demographic.

There is a wonderful game to help students learn probability called "Shut the Box". The problem with this is that I only own a single personal copy of the game and it is hard to have students participate when only 2 out of a class of 28 can play at a time. Like all mathematical concepts, it is better learned when given an opportunity to apply it to a hands-on/real life activity.

What we really need is a class set of 12 games so that we can do small group activities that can be built around the game to help them learn more about statistics and probability.

By donating these sets, you will make it possible to not just learn the statistics and abstract concepts we're trying to teach but give them a real opportunity to apply their knowledge and/or learn about things in a self-discovery lesson with the use of the "Shut the Box" game. We could never purchase a set of these games ourselves and as a result our students are missing one of the few hands-on activities that math can offer.
