Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

Just as adults desire comfortable places to read, so do kids. Much of the reading period, or Reading Workshop, we teach at Dodge Renaissance Academy is spent reading independently and thinking and writing about their reading. The 5th graders at Dodge would benefit greatly from having comfortable furniture in their classroom. If we had a few pieces of soft, inviting furniture, students could rotate throughout the week to read in a different setting. It would change their attitude about what reading at school is.
