Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

I am a veteran kindergarten teacher in an inner-city public school in a district that is floundering.

My students are great kids with two strikes against them before they even come to school. Many are in one-parent, very poor homes and have few opportunities to expand or be inspired.

If I have storytelling kits in my room, the kids will have greater access to more literature and experiences of print. They will also be able to gain some self-confidence in oral language experiences.

If you will grant this request, I am sure my students will get a more rounded experience with written and spoken language. I hope that some will be inspired to become writers themselves.
