My students need 5 personal recorders with 5 accompanying headphones, cassette tapes and AAA batteries to increase oral reading fluency and allow for individual correction.
FULLY FUNDED! Dr. Woods's classroom raised $287
This project is fully funded
My students are finally enthused about reading! Now it is my job, to continue the process!
I am a second grade teacher to 25 diverse learners in the heart of Southeast, Washington, D.C. My students are housed in a Title I environment in which their parents are not able to extend the learning process out of the classroom due to financial restraints.
In grades K-2, my second grade students are at their last phase of learning to read. Beginning in 3rd grade, they will be challenged with reading to learn.
If I had the funding to begin a recorded book library in my classroom, students would be able to access these books by listening to the stories read aloud to them. Parents are also able to assist them with weekend extension activities.
With five cassette recorders with headphones to match as well as extra cassettes, students are able to rotate use of their own feedback from reading stories. We will have enough cassettes so that EACH student is able to have an opportunity to rate their performances using a rubric that will be designed by them!!
What's more is that my students are able to utilize their tape recorders for their writing center as well as having partner reading activities to complete within the class. My students will also be able to improve spelling scores as well!
My students need more feedback for their efforts of reading and I want them to know that even with their learning disabilities, they are still very much part of the team!!
Nearly all students from low‑income households
