The orchestra program I began this year at the Williams Multiplex, an inner city Chicago Public School, is making great strides. At the moment, the third through seventh grade orchestra consists of only violins and a couple of violas. My goal is to expand the group so that some day it will become a full string orchestra. That is why I need a cello. My students will love playing the cello. With its deep and rich tones, my students will fall in love with its sounds, hopefully enough that some will consider becoming cellists in my orchestra. I would allow all thirty of my students to try out the cello and give some of them the option of switching to the cello in the orchestra. With the cello the orchestra will have a much fuller sound, and we will be able to play standard orchestral pieces which are not possible currently with only violins and a couple of violas. My orchestra students have already gained new experiences through playing the violin and viola. Help further expand their horizons by providing a cello.
