Aspiring High School Symphony Needs Help

My students need one more student flute for a ninth grade virtuoso who can't afford to rent an instrument. We are an expanding inner city school, and any child away from our ensemble is simply heartbreaking - currently she is a 'percussion assistant' who sighs every time the other flutists have a featured tune!

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

So many adults have an old instrument lying around the house that they bought and gave up practicing--you can use it to help one very motivated little girl continue playing for years to come. We are a new, expanding high school that services students in a very high-need community, and much of our yearly music budget goes toward supplying them with instruments to rent.

We are barely squeaking by with instruments on loan from family members, other teachers, and kind benefactors. But with 130 new children each year, many of them aspiring musicians, there are always a few children in each section who are 'left over' after our school instruments are all given out.

Since our percussion section is filled to bursting with 'assistants' who stay after class every day to ask hopefully if I've found anyone, anywhere, who might let them borrow a flute for the school year, I am expanding my search. A flute, in any condition, for the school to keep in trust for this talented child and those who follow her, would be an appreciated gift.

Many children in high need areas cite music programs as one of the main reasons that they stay in school--in the band room, they are safe, they are wanted, and they are empowered. Your kind help can give that overwhelming sense of belonging and talent that comes with a strong instrumental music education.
