High school newspaper needs a copier!
I advise the newspaper club at a high school on the Lower East Side of NYC. Our students are in grades 9-12 and are passionate about journalism!
I work with a dedicated group of students who have worked hard to start up a school newspaper. Although the school newspaper is a huge success, we are currently using paper and toner from the teachers resource room to produce our paper!
We are asking a generous donor(s) to supply us with a printer/copier for just the newspaper's use. Along with the printer, I am also requesting 4 toner cartridges to keep it running. We don't want to use valuable paper and ink that teachers need to make lessons and handouts. In having our own copier and toner, we would be able to be self-sufficient and take our newspaper to a whole new level!
Your help with this will ensure that our students get the experience and joy of producing their very own school newspaper. They need the experience in preparing for college, as several of them are very interested in journalism. With the plummeting budgets being allotted to NYC high schools, extra-curriculars like school newspaper are fading away, depleting our students of worthwhile activities that keep them in school and off the streets. Please help me to keep this program running.
