Who Will Teach Us About Fairy Tales?

My students need dramatic play costumes, 2 CD read-alongs, and one puppet set.

FULLY FUNDED! Dr. Woods's classroom raised $366

This project is fully funded

I am a second grade teacher to 25 bright smiles and impressionable minds. We are a Title I school and our students are on a reduced lunch program. Some of my students are not even able to come in their full uniforms due to lack of money. This year I want to offer them an alternative to "clothing" while being inspired by a genre of literature that is unfamiliar to them! Our classroom theme is all about Fairy Tales! Our Jack and the Beanstalk reading wall with real branches and figs, our Goldilocks and the Three Bears word wall with teddy bears and autumn leaves, not to mention our Hansel and Gretel wall full of student made work reflecting learned standards. One thing is missing from all of this fun...my students do not know what a fairy tale is and are very enthused when we read library books and act them out (comprehension made fun) in class. I want to present the theme and awareness of fairy tales in not only a language that my babies can understand, but to also provide an alternative means to worksheets used for assessment. With the provided items, all of my students will be able to participate in some of the most popular fairy tales. The Gingerbread Boy CD read along will help to identify rhyming words. The Three Bears CD read along will introduce the use of graphic organizers such as Venn Diagrams and story charts to compare and contrast elements of literature. In order to reach the WHOLE class, I must appeal to my kinesthetic and spatial students as well! Dramatic play is a great way to establish oral presentation skills to my students that remain shy to speak during instruction! Please help my students improve in their communication and fluency skills in the classroom!
