Give Them a Chance, and They'll Give You Their All...
My students need multimedia, literacy, and math resources for centers, as well as art supplies, notebooks, classroom decorations and other basic stationary necessities.
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. L.'s classroom raised $538

Imagine presenting a business proposal to a major corporation with a broken projector, dried-up markers, a filthy board, and poorly bound information packets. Not likely to close the deal, right? This is the dilemma we are facing, with more far-reaching consequences. After years of consistently poor academic performance, this particular New York inner-city school has been shut down and is being replaced by three newer schools within the same building. The kids, however, will be the same. Many of them retain the sense of academic and social insecurity, coupled with low expectations of themselves and of the school system. As a third grade teacher in the largest of the three schools, my job is even more paramount, because this is the first year they will be taking state exams. I plan to give them my all, but I need your help.
The kids need to walk into the classroom and know that everything they need to succeed is available to them. They are used to being in an environment with no imagination, few ideas for broadening their experiences, and no materials. I have the first two in abundance. To make matters worse, the government has cut the budget for teacher reimbursement by over 40%, which means less money for us to use on school supplies.
Having a classroom environment that promotes excitement, organization, creativity, and challenge is essential. Unique items such as flash cards, pocket charts, stencils and other manipulatives will help with group and independent instruction. We are also requesting basic stationary materials like notebooks, paper, and markers. Being artistically inclined and thrifty, I will do my best to take little and make it go a long way.
Your participation in this program speaks highly of your dedication to creating a better world and helping our youth reach the pinnacles of success that you've been blessed to attain. Your help will restore the faith my students should have in themselves and others. Thank you for your consideration.
