For our study of star life in the Astronomy unit of my eighth grade physical science class I'd like to be able to show the kids the variety of color spectra created from the different elemental gases. Once they have seen the spectral colors they can determine which stars are made up of which elements. This will be key in understanding the life cycle of the stars. So I'd like to purchase 1 gas discharge tube display with eight different elemental fluorescent lights bulbs. The kids will then build their own spectroscopes (no supplies needed for these) and analyze the spectra of the stars with these self-built devices and compare them to the spectra that they see when they look through the spectrosopes at the gas discharge tubes. Thanks for helping us bring the stars to life for 190 eighth grade physical science students! The science classes that I teach are a mix of all ability levels. I think that the best way to teach the kids is through hands on activities such as these.
