Hello! Thank you for reading my proposal. I teach eighth grade Mathematics at a Visual and Performing Arts Middle School in Astoria, Queens, NY. This is my first year teaching and I am currently juggling establishing classroom management, developing lesson plans, and taking night classes for my Masters in Middle School Math. So needless to say, I am busier than I have been in a long time. I recently switched careers from traveling actor to teacher because I feel empowering the youth of New York City outweighs my passion for performing on stage. I am interested in having an overhead projector in my classroom. I strive to present lessons that involve hands-on projects and the use of manipulatives. An overhead would enable me to let students model the initial mathematical task and have it projected large enough to keep other students on track. I could also use this tool to project lessons involving geometric art and to enable the projection of my graphing calculator view-screen so students can follow along with their calculators. I choose to work at this ?Visual/Performing Arts' Middle School because I strongly believe if the teacher has the inspiration and follow through to make it happen, Math can be taught creatively. My undergraduate degree in Management Information Systems with my experience as a working actor give me the capability to create lessons that will actively engage students of different learning abilities. An overhead projector is a necessary tool to exposing my students to several new ways of learning.
