My students need a portable weather station for use by our whole school population.
FULLY FUNDED! Mrs. P.'s classroom raised $208

I am the Science Lab Specialist at a Title One school seeing students from Kindergarten to fifth grade. It is my mission to increase our Science Achievement Test scores. My first year in this position uncovered that my students were unaware of their outdoor environment. The students were spending hours immersed in television and technology and had no knowledge of the great outdoors. So it became my mission to reach students in a whole new facet by creating an outdoor learning environment.
I have started a "Healthy Garden" program that has become somewhat of an instant success. I got the children outside. I would like to extend this "outdoor" momentum by creating a weather station. This particular area would provide students with a place to record and track our local weather. We would be able to create a weather history for use in our planting and maintaining of our garden program. Students would be recording weather information-hence, showing the children a way that math and science are linked. The weather station could also be a part of the "student news program" where we would then be addressing Language arts standards.
I believe that if students are made aware of "new" experiences outdoors that we can motivate students to turn off their televisions, video games and spend time outdoors. Hopefully, this will lead them to appreciate what we have.
This project will directly impact historically underfunded classrooms.
