As a teacher, you quickly realize that many students carry quiet burdens with them throughout the school day that others may never fully see or understand. For some students, access to hygiene and personal care essentials may not always be consistent outside of school, and many students feel embarrassed or uncomfortable asking for help when they need these items.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, my students will now have access to a wellness cart filled with important hygiene and comfort essentials in a safe, discreet, and judgment-free way. Having access to items such as feminine hygiene products, disposable toothbrushes, floss picks, tissues, stain remover wipes, and other personal care items can make an incredible difference in helping students feel comfortable, confident, and prepared throughout the school day. These may seem like small things, but for many middle school students, they can have a major impact on self-esteem, emotional comfort, and overall well-being.\r\n\r\nMany of my students receive special education support services and benefit greatly from environments that help them feel safe, supported, and cared for. When students are worried about basic personal needs, it becomes much harder to fully focus on learning, participate in class, and feel confident around their peers. This wellness cart will help remove some of those quiet barriers so students can spend less time worrying and more time focusing on their growth, learning, and success.\r\n\r\nMore than anything, I want my students to know that they are cared for and supported every time they walk into our classroom. I cannot wait for them to see the wellness cart and know that they will always have access to resources that help them feel more confident and comfortable throughout the day. It has allowed me to focus on teaching CAD skills, problem-solving, and perseverance without having to limit projects because of a lack of materials. These new texts help students develop literacy skills, vocabulary, comprehension, and critical thinking. They also support language acquisition for multilingual learners and encourage all students to build empathy, cultural awareness, and global perspectives. Having access to books in students' home languages strengthens reading confidence and helps foster a lifelong love of reading.\r\n\r\nReading in our library looks different for every student. Some students are curled up with a book that reminds them of home, while others are exploring stories and cultures that are new to them. Students read independently, share recommendations with friends, discuss favorite characters, and often discover that stories transcend language barriers. We strive to create a welcoming environment where students can read for pleasure, curiosity, and personal growth.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have been especially excited about these new books. Our multilingual learners are thrilled to find books in languages they speak at home, and many have expressed how meaningful it is to see their languages represented on our shelves. Students who are studying world languages have also enjoyed exploring texts in languages they are learning.
