As a teacher, you quickly realize that many students carry quiet burdens with them throughout the school day that others may never fully see or understand. For some students, access to hygiene and personal care essentials may not always be consistent outside of school, and many students feel embarrassed or uncomfortable asking for help when they need these items.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, my students will now have access to a wellness cart filled with important hygiene and comfort essentials in a safe, discreet, and judgment-free way. Having access to items such as feminine hygiene products, disposable toothbrushes, floss picks, tissues, stain remover wipes, and other personal care items can make an incredible difference in helping students feel comfortable, confident, and prepared throughout the school day. These may seem like small things, but for many middle school students, they can have a major impact on self-esteem, emotional comfort, and overall well-being.\r\n\r\nMany of my students receive special education support services and benefit greatly from environments that help them feel safe, supported, and cared for. When students are worried about basic personal needs, it becomes much harder to fully focus on learning, participate in class, and feel confident around their peers. This wellness cart will help remove some of those quiet barriers so students can spend less time worrying and more time focusing on their growth, learning, and success.\r\n\r\nMore than anything, I want my students to know that they are cared for and supported every time they walk into our classroom. I cannot wait for them to see the wellness cart and know that they will always have access to resources that help them feel more confident and comfortable throughout the day. Thank you again to the Sonic Foundation for your kindness, compassion, and generosity. Your support is helping create a classroom environment built on dignity, care, and encouragement, and I know it will have a lasting impact on my students.","photopaths":["https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/digital-gratitude/10277762/tp_4686820.png?width=900&height=836&fit=bounds&auto=webp","https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/digital-gratitude/10277762/tp_4686819.png?width=900&height=836&fit=bounds&auto=webp","https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/digital-gratitude/10277762/tp_4686821.png?width=900&height=836&fit=bounds&auto=webp"]},{"proposalId":10270448,"teacherName":"Ms. Pingsterhaus","teacherPossessiveName":"Ms. Pingsterhaus'","teacherPhoto":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5935306_orig.jpg?width=34&height=34&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1575056561334","schoolName":"Woodland Acres Middle School","city":"Houston","state":"TX","title":"The Manga Must Go On!","impactNote":"Dear SONIC Drive-In,\n\nThank you so much for your incredibly generous donation! As a teacher at a Title I high school in Texas, I work with students from many different backgrounds, including general education and special education students, and these resources have helped create a more welcoming, supportive, and student-centered environment. One of the biggest ways we are using the materials is through our student support and wellness initiatives. Students helped organize and stock our classroom snack and supply area, creating a space where classmates can quietly access what they need without embarrassment or interruption to learning. What started as a simple classroom resource quickly became a larger conversation about empathy, leadership, and community responsibility.\r\n\r\nOne specific moment that stood out happened during a collaborative project in my social studies classroom. Students were working in groups to create presentations connecting historical movements to issues communities face today. Because the classroom supplies, chargers, snacks, and organizational materials were readily available, students were able to stay focused and engaged throughout the activity instead of worrying about dead Chromebooks, hunger, or missing supplies. One student shared that having access to snacks during class helped them stay awake and participate fully after missing breakfast earlier that day. Another student who usually avoids group work took on a leadership role organizing materials for their group presentation. Small moments like these have had a huge impact on student confidence and participation.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their reactions were immediate and heartfelt. Many were excited simply because they felt seen and cared for. Several students said things like, “This is really for us?” and “You actually thought of everything.” They were especially excited about the practical items that addressed everyday needs, from snacks and hygiene supplies to classroom organization tools and project materials. For many students, having reliable access to these resources reduces stress and allows them to focus more fully on learning. The atmosphere in the classroom shifted almost instantly. Students became more comfortable asking questions, collaborating with one another, and taking ownership of the classroom space.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for our students involve continuing to build leadership and service opportunities connected to these resources. Students are currently planning ways to expand our classroom support systems into a broader campus initiative that benefits more students throughout the school day. In social studies, we are beginning a project-based learning unit focused on civic engagement and community advocacy. Students will research issues affecting schools and communities, develop action plans, and present solutions that promote equity and student support. Many students have already expressed interest in connecting these lessons to real-world service opportunities on campus.\r\n\r\nThese resources have done far more than provide supplies. They have helped create a classroom culture where students feel valued, supported, and empowered to help others. Our donors gave students more than materials—they gave them encouragement, confidence, and opportunities to grow academically and personally.","photopaths":["https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/digital-gratitude/10249554/tp_4714688.jpeg?width=900&height=836&fit=bounds&auto=webp","https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/digital-gratitude/10249554/tp_4714687.jpeg?width=900&height=836&fit=bounds&auto=webp"]}]
