I know that as a teacher my job is to teach my students new things. I also know that it is my job to get my students to enjoy school. But, with my population, it is even more important to get my students to become independent members of society. I want them to learn basic skills that will allow them to reach that goal. Who are these students, you ask...My students are on TK (4 OR 5 years old). They have a variety of abilities, and disabilities. My students are in a special day class, that promotes independence, academic skills and life skills. We work daily on making sure that my students, as young as they are, have the options to be successful and as independent as they can be.
