I teach kindergarten in a great early childhood school that serves low-income, minority students in Brooklyn, NY. Many of my students receive free/reduced lunch, many are the children of immigrants, and all are black or latino. My students are enthusiastic and eager about learning. 40% of the students in my class have special needs. Therefore I have many academic needs in my classroom and a variety of learning abilities. For much of the day, my students receive small-group instruction targeted to their needs. When I teach my groups, students often sit in front of my easel as I model the teaching point. The easel is also used for learning centers. For example, students work in pairs and practice spelling sight words using magnetic letters on the easel. I use an easel with a dry-erase magnetic board on one side and a felt board on the other. My easel has been used for many years and is now broken. My students love the activities that utilize the classroom easel. A new easel would allow me to continue using this tool for effective instruction. Additionally, my students would be able to use the easel for various learning centers. The cost of this proposal is $283. hide
