At the school I work at, many parents are first generation immigrants from Mexico and because of different language barriers they do not always know the best ways to help their children with reading. As the reading specialist of my school, I am hosting a Literacy Night for our 4th through 8th grade students. During this event we will showcase best practices that teachers use in the classroom. It will provide ideas for parents to use as home with their children as well as promote engagement in literacy amongst the students. As part of this event, we would like to give out books to all that attend. Families can take these books home to practice the reading strategies that encourage students to understand what they read. Involving the community is key to providing a rich educational experience for all children. Please help us make this event memorable! hide
