I am a first grade Dual Language teacher at a New York City public school. Many of my students are from low income families. My students come from many different backgrounds. Some are new to the country and others are from New York with a common goal: to be bilingual. At our Dual Language program our students have the opportunity to become fluent readers in English and Spanish. Unfortunately, we do not have a large selection of leveled reading books in Spanish. At our school we believe that teaching students to read in their native language first will help them become more successful in learning to read English. Guided reading is an important part of our reading workshop program. Students that fall in love with reading at a young age become life-long learners with a rich vocabulary. My goal is to provide guided reading opportunities with authentic Spanish text to my student. We need text that would support Spanish instruction with careful leveled text that can help all my students experience success by learning and retaining vocabulary and key reading skills. Your help will ensure that my students receive an enriched reading instruction with colorful Spanish books that will inspire them to celebrate reading. Obtaining these books will help my students by putting exciting Spanish books into their hands at their level. My student’s need 216 Spanish titles (6copies each of 36 titles) beginning guided reading books for our classroom. The cost of this proposal is $883.39, which includes shipping for any materials requested. hide
