FCCLA is a national leadership organization for middle and high school students. Last month several of my students from Ingraham High School in Seattle, WA competed in the state competition for parliamentary procedures and Promote FCCLA. I have 2 parli pro teams, one consists of 5 freshmen and the other 8 upperclassmen. Both teams won the highest ranking for the state as well as the other team consisiting of 3 students who competed in the Promote FCCLA event. This qualified each of them to compete at the national convention in Nashville, TN. this coming July. The Seattle School District and our own PTSA have provided funds to support about 75% of the total cost. The trip cost about$1,200 per student and I have 16 students. Most of these students come from middle to low income families who have financial stresses. I have made it my goal to not let money get in the way of the students and the amazing opportunity that is before them. The students have taken on some small fundraisers and are working hard but the amounts earned are small. They are truly amazing, professional and polished. It is refreshing to watch them in action. hide
