Dear Family and Friends, Thanks so much for making my big day as special as it was. As you’ll remember, I chose to give a portion of my gift money to Donorschoose.org. I selected three teacher proposals, and funded them with the money you gave me. Among the students I am helping is a 7th grade social studies class that’s piloting a six-week enrichment program for students with reading and writing significantly below grade level. The project required copies of the Freedom Writers Diary, a class set of the Diary of Anne Frank, and poster paper for activities. Students will be reading the books and engaging in issues of social justice and civic responsibility. This material on character, hope, and tolerance will also be supplemented by trips to the Museum of Tolerance and visits by actual Freedom Writers and a Holocaust survivor.
