This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Creating a calming and peaceful space for my students has become very important to me. I am blessed to have such an amazing job where I can teach something that I love. Throughout my life making art has always been what has kept me going. It has been my inspiration and I hope my students learn to use their creativity and love of art in their lives as well.

Being able to share my passion with my students is not only amazing, but also rewarding.

We are living in a world that is sometimes very uncertain and I want my students to know that when they are in my class they can feel safe and at peace. Having a calming environment is essential.

With your generous donations I will be able to purchase art supplies that will allow us to continue with our art journals/diary. Each week I assign 1 to 2 journal prompts. Each prompt not only allows them to learn and practice art techniques, they also relate to them and their lives, their desires, needs, aspirations, inspirations, and social emotional wellbeing. They not only have a space to write their emotions, but also draw, color, paint, and create amazing textured backgrounds. At the end of the school year my goal is for each one of them to take their art journals/diaries and treasure them forever. In 10-20 years, they might stumble upon their books and reminisce about their high school years. These journals have become a vital component in my classes. Again, thank you so much for helping us fulfill our dreams.
