This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My sixteen students speak English and Spanish and are studying their third or fourth language of Chinese. These passionate individuals are active in the school community. Many of my students participate in student government (one of them is the president). They have collaborated on initiatives such as the school snack cart and assemblies to raise awareness about women's rights. They also participate in the school musical and athletic teams.
My students are excited to deepen their understanding of China and to share their newfound knowledge upon return.
They have been raising money on their own through organizing bake sales. They raised $392 at the last bake sale.

My Project
On the trip to China, students will travel to Beijing, Xi'an, and Shanghai. They will participate in tourist activities (such as visiting the Great Wall of China and Tiananmen Square) and some cultural immersion activities, such as visiting a local Chinese school and enjoying the opportunity to share a traditional meal with Hutong families. Our students will have multiple opportunities to speak in Chinese and deepen their understanding of both Chinese culture and history.
Our students have studied Chinese for two to three years; the opportunity to travel for nine days in China will both solidify their language understanding as well as enhance their cultural understanding.
