I need a small library for my professional development. My main goal is to find new ways to engage my students. The longer I can hold their attention, the better I can teach them.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
While teaching Algebra 1, I have seen students range from below grade level to above grade level. With having so many abilities and styles, it always makes for an interesting class. I am teaching at the same high school I graduated from and can share my similar experiences with my students.
For most of my students, school is not their first priority over family and work.
My kids come from poverty levels and know that school can be way out of the system. With a high level of English Language Learners, I try to connect with them through their own language and experiences but I feel that I can do more.
Teaching the content is always first but a very close second is also teaching them to be a good person.
My Project
I will use these books to be able to learn the techniques and strategies necessary to engage my students. I believe that students are not interested in the content unless we make it interesting and engaging.
If a student is engaged then there will be fewer distractions and confrontations.
I will try to blend my current teaching style with the new things I will learn to create a new teaching style that will benefit my students the most. I want to create experiences my students will never forget. Teach Like a Pirate is the book I'm most excited to read because it's one of the books that will take me out of my comfort zone to try new things in my classroom.
